final reflective post

Transforming With New Technologies has lots of good and important information that I need to know to be able to become the teacher that 21st century needs. Each chapter of this book taught me so much to help my students as well as my kids at home. All the experience that I had in this class is reflected in all of my assignments that I worked on in this class. With the help of Transforming Learning with New Technologies text book and Mrs. Coleman, I was able to achieve many things that I couldn't do my self. The Blog we created in class, the activities in class and the discussions and assignments made individually and in classmate groups really help me to assist better my students at work.It also made me think of how important is to know what you are teaching and how you are teaching in the class. I realized what a teacher needs to learn to become a real good teacher.

My blog help me to better understand  the chapters from the textbook (Transforming Learning With New Technologies). For instance technology integration stages and issues, from chapter 12 (299). This subject taught me how big of a challenge it is  for a teacher to be able to make a good lesson plan, so the students can feel engage with the daily lesson with out making the class boring or confusing. I had the chance to learn about  Multicultural education in  21 century schools subject .This really helped me understand and help better my students. Each one of them regarding their nationality has a special way of learning and I need to make sure that I can assist he or she on the best way possible. Every chapter in the book was very helpful to better help my students. I will keep my blog to go back and review all what I learned with Transforming Learning With New Technologies.

I really enjoyed the discussions with my classmates. The discussions we worked on in this class taught me to see and to understand each different subject in a different way. Sometime we have our own point of view, but when we can read what others think about the same subject, we can understand better  the meaning of it.  In my work, discussions helped me to better communicate with the teachers that I assist. We can dialogue better when I have the knowledge of how to use technology to assist ELL students better.

The activities that we did in every class was a very nice experience. It taught me different ways of how we can use technology to assist our students. I really enjoyed the activity of the GPS systems. This is a good activity to use with my six graders at the beginning of the year in world history.

the assignments that I worked on all helped me very much. The web quest assignment was a very good experience for me. I had the opportunity to talk with teachers that I assist and to talk about  how to work on lesson plans. that is something that I would like to keep for my records.I learned how to research and to evaluate a  website page to make sure that is safe for my students to navigate.

Collaboration helped me under stand many information ,like for example how can home work, summarizing and note taking,Cooperative learning and other subjects can help our students to be more successful in school. From my point of view, this class as others that I have attend this semester is just perfect ,the only thing I can think of is that we need more time to explore all the different good information to research in our 21st technology  class.

Hi, my name is Laura Guzman Moreno. i am from Mexico i have been in Naples for 9 years. i have 3 kids,2 boys and 1 girl. i am looking in to be an elementary teacher.i never thought about been a teacher until my first year working in gulf view middle school. i been taking classes since 6 years ago taking one class per semester.i enjoy working as a teacher assistant. i like anything that has to be with helping kids and parents.usually what i do is translation.i'm also in college classes because i want to set an example for my kids for the reason that i don't have many graduates in my family.i want them to go to college and to have a career which i couldn't have when i was young.
my philosophy is that teachers need to be patience and to really love to be one. i think that to be a teacher is a very big responsibility. with my experience in gulf view  i see teachers always working extra hours to try to help on the best way their student.

Chapter six has very interesting subjects, and all are very helpful information for teachers and students I believe. As I was reading the  chapter it was pretty difficult for me to pick something to write about. But building a standards connectors is something that I do like to have, is like a teachers diary,we can have everything in there. As transforming learning with new technologies mentions, "to build standard connector, you need access to the internet and one of the data management or social bookmarking technologies"(138). This is one reason why this coarse has been so hard for me because we need to be computer masters to be able to achieve what a teacher of the 21 century needs to achieve. It is nice to know that I  have started to build my own standard connector with what I already have learned in this coarse. It is very challenging but I will keep on going.
Webquest, virtual field trips, and video conferencing sounds very interesting. I haven't hear about that yet, but I will investigate more about how it really works.
The trip in webquest really sounds interesting. "Virtual field trips, takes students to places all over the world without ever living their classroom or school computer lab" ,as transforming  learning with new technology mentioned (141). I really would like to have that experience.

Lesson plan is another subject that got my attention. teachers seems to teach the class like so easy but to create that lesson plan really make me pull my hair. It explains what a lesson plan needs to have ,but when I go to the web page is like different stuff in there. I really enjoyed working on this lesson plan. even if you don't make a very good lesson plan ,It trains to give a better explanation of the lesson.

Electronic Grading Soft Ware is a virtual record keeping program. It calculates and grades, tests, quizzes, class  assignments, home works and participation just to name a few. this program can be used by teachers in all the school or as personal. this soft ware also keeps track of attendance, support lesson, planning and moreover manages teachers correspondences. This fabulous soft wares can even perform administrative functions. the best thing I like about this software is that teachers can easily find out where her students needs more practice because of the quickness of this software to calculate the grades on all areas in the class and even the homework. Teachers can easily find out what lesson students need to work on more.

quiz.4teachers is a collaborative learning. Is a  very good website for planning the class. It is more like a blog with many websites to explore depending in what subject we want to use. personally, I am more attracted to math because it's what I do the most in my job.

so I found a very good website in quiz.4teachers, about math. it is called buzzmath.com. It has a very good variety of different math situations from pre-k to 12 grade to explore. It has many other websites for all subject to explore.

      Technology Integration Stages and Issues.

Integration in Technology is a very important factor in today's 21st century learners. As teachers we have to commit our selves to learn the right use of technology. It is kind of hard for us teachers to be, when we as students can't afford to access this kind of technology. If we really want to be successful as teachers we first need to be successful in technology. At my place of work we just started using mobymax.com and the teacher that I assist was very exited today when she was sharing with me that this website was very good because she didn't need to calculate grades because mobymax.com calculate the grades for each student. Our students are practicing vocabulary on mobymax.com. I think that everything has to be with the teacher willingness to navigate and learn how to achieve all these different kinds of websites available for us to better teach our 21st century learners.Transforming Learning with new Technologies mentions, "A technology-using educator can defined as someone who:

makes informed choices

Explores technology
Add caption Some rights reserved by RDECOM

Promotes changes (299)

Making informed choices means that we as teacher need to the best website to help our students to be engage with the daily lesson with out making the class boring or confusing.
Explores technology means that it is well define that we can use technology with our students to write about any issues to critic or to analyse for example politics in our economic class.
Promote changes, I really liked how Transforming learning with new Technology defines it, "promotes change at the classroom ,school building, and system levels. Rather that "change for change's sake," change should be intended to make it possible for every student to reach her or his full learning potential."(299). I had this experience in one of my classes that I assist . The teacher made a change for technology, just for "change's sake"! the change didn't work because he didn't put his effort to fulfill his and the students needs. He didn't under stand how we suppose to play the game and what the lesson was in the game.so he didn't have no choice but to stop the activity and learned by himself the website till he completely engage with the activity so he could explain the students how and what they were learning with that game.
I really enjoined reading about tracking Technology Trends. As a teacher to be I know I need to keep on going navigating the web with new website and programs that we have every year. I just wish I could have more time to navigate all these web pages to learn more about new technologies for teachers and student and in general for all human beings.

chapter nine is very interesting as well as all what I have read in this book. As I was reading Power Point and next-Generation Presentation,I can agree on this subject about power points because the language art  teacher that I assist at work, uses power point with the students and they really enjoy the class while they are practicing their phonetic skills. As Transforming Learning with New Technologies says " Technology educators think about power point in terms of information presentation design-the arrangements of writing and pictorial information so the intended audiences can easily and clearly understand it" (223). I totally agree with this article. L/A teacher teaches the phonetic skills and  while teaching the students, the students are making their own power point with vocabulary, notes and pictures.power point works very well because it is more convenient to   go back to it, in contrast if they do their notes on paper they always misplace it and they can't see their work again.

literacy Learning with Digital Cameras , I haven't had the opportunity to use this method. it sounds interesting and i will keep researching it ,so I can use it with my Ell students. looks like is the same thing as power point but with their own pictures.Concept Books sounds good for my ELL students and is very good. Students remember more when we use picture books with the vocabulary. As Transforming Learning with New Technologies says "As resources for beginning readers and English Language Learners, concept books offer another opportunity for teachers to use digital photography to promote literacy learning" (231).I agree with this comment. students can engage more with the new language when we use this method.

I also read about Next Generation Web 2.0 Presentation Tools. it got my attention the Animoto subject because I remember that my son use it last year in P.E class,he need it to make a video of his own.He was exited about it and did a wonderful job.

I really enjoy reading the Multicultural Education in 21st Century Schools. I don't think their is another way to rephrase what this paragraph expresses on this subject. It made me feel the chills of emotion when I was reading the Multicultural Education. I love what James banks noted, about all the diversity we have in the classroom and how they should have an equal opportunity to learn in school (246).

Revealing Hidden Histories and Untold Stories. I agree with this subject. As Transforming Learning with New Technologies reads,"Diverse students are more interested in and more likely to embrace the study of U.S history when they see that the experiences of their forebears are integrated into the larger historical narrative(Loewen,2005; Takaki,2008)"(246). I have experience this with the Ells eight graders. We are learning about Haiti government and every one is very interested to know and to tell their country's history.

I also agree with Expanding Teaching Methods and approaches. As transforming Learning with New Technologies reads, "psychologist Beverly Daniel Tatum (2003) found that  students seek out members of their own ethnic or racial group or gender as a way to establish and reinforce their own sense of self-identity"(247). Yes! it is true that we as humans tend to do that  every time we are in  public. we always use the same method. while reading this subject I thought of my self . When ever I go to a meeting I always tend to go to the side where I see Spanish speakers. It is also because of the language, sometimes I can  feel ashamed of making a mistake when I speak English. Also I think I do it because I feel more comfortable when I speak Spanish because that is my primary language.

Using Technology with Linguistic. This subject is very familiar with my work and life experience. This programs really help me at work and at home with my daily life. I use online Language Translation Services. My favorite website is Google Translate. I use it every day at work and I even have that app on my cellphone. I speak Spanish but there is always a big word that I might not know the meaning or the pronunciation and Google gives both information. Every year I have at least one students from a different place who doesn't speak English or Spanish and I use Google to communicate with them. At work I have to translate English to Spanish and into Haitian creole too, so Google really helps me communicate with my new students.

In conclusion Multicultural Education in 21st Century is full of good information to learn from, to become a better teacher and person. As teachers it is very important to learn about all the methods and technological tools to help better our students

Today every classroom has students with learning disability problems that teachers don't know about. As teachers we need to check every movement and every act that the students makes to find out if they qualify to be tested for learning disability. Dyslexia is a disability problem that we can confuse very easily with laziness, impaired hearing or vision, and poor intelligence.Students with Dyslexia can get very frustrated when they can't finish their activity on time. On my experience we have two students that were diagnosed with Dyslexia. At first teachers thought that it was because they were new to this country, it was normal for the student to act indifferent in class. The school system regulations are that foreign students need at least one year to adapt to the new environment, so they can test them  for learning disabilities.
Dyslexia affect:
  • Reading and reading aloud
  • Writing
  • Reading comprehension
  • Spelling
  • Some times speaking                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      All rights reserved by lenkaland
Dyslexia is a long life challenge, but is not an impediment to have a career in life the good news is that students with Dyslexia can be good readers and writers with the proper help.
The Treatments for Dyslexia are:
  • Language processing skills
All rights reserved by jaihmaia.marieAdd caption
  • Extra time to complete assignments and tests
  • Use computer with spell check for written assignments
  • Books with audio tapes
  • Computer software that reads printed materials aloud
  •  Emotional support

Inclusion teachers usually work all subjects with students who has Dyslexia but overall the help we as teachers can give, I think that emotional support is the most important help we can give to our students.

Integrating electronic communications into your teaching,.All this subjects got my attention, Engaging with students and sharing information with families, on my experience I have seen
how students engage, and feel more confident when teachers and parents meet and exchange phone numbers. I usually am in contact with most of my ESL students and is not because teachers aren't interested on their students ,but because of the language. when teachers need to communicate with parents they usually call me to translate for them, I am the messenger between teacher and parents. Once the student know I can call their parents for good or bad,and that their parents or them can call me for any reason, I can feel more confidence on those students, on the other hand I have students that will say "you can call my parents, but they will not answer you because they are busy", I can see those students flailing on themselves and their parents.we are not using the web we are using the cellphone to talk and to text. I agree  when Transforming Learning with new Technologies says, "Relying solely on electronic communication, may disadvantage families who do not have computers or who are intimidated by school organizations"(191).It is very important for teacher to make always a call home because the students feel supported from the teacher and from the parents.

Using Email and Text Messaging as a Teacher, Wow! this is very interesting if we as teachers use Email and texting with students that would be working 24/7! I think that teachers does need to have boundaries with students. Being a teacher is already a big  responsibility in school now, with text messaging it will be worst.  I agree with Transforming Learning with new Technologies when it says "some educators now urge teachers to embrace rather than seek to ban the use of cellphones, seeing text messaging as a way to build "better relationships, meaningful educational experiences, and more cooperative environment"(Nielsen & webb2011,p.2)(195).students wants to have their cellphones with them all the time so they are more careful of what they text or do on their cellphones.

Website and Blogs for Teachers and Students. this subject really got my nerves. I know that it is very important for me to learn technology to become a 21st century teacher I have a lot to learn.. At my work we use technology. I can make vocabulary words in spelling city.com but I feel this is nothing compare to what Transforming Learning with new Technologies is teaching us as 21st centuries  teachers. Blogs are interesting to work with I will continue working on learning more about it.

Computer games as learning resources.  This subject got my attention because while reading the article, I’m thinking of my son Fernando. Fernando is a 504 student. He uses to have reading difficulties. He used to get tire and bored just to look at the books that he needed to read.  Fernando is an 8th grade student and since last year (7), he change his thinking about reading. At this school they have a program called achieve3000.  At the beginning of this program Fernando had a test to find out his lexile level in reading. Once achieve3000 has his lexile level it gives him stories that are at his level. Also he can search the stories of his choice. Achieve3000 has passages for kiditz , teenbiz, empower3000, esci3000 coach 3000 and spark3000. Achieve3000 help with thinking strategies. It gives questions and asks his opinion about the article before and after reading the article. He also needs to explain why he keeps his first opinion or why he changed. So Fernando is practicing his writing and reading skills. He gets points for each passage that he reads at school or at home. Fernando enjoys reading in Achieve3000. Transforming Learning with New Technologies says, in schools, teachers use gamification strategies when they give individual or group recognition and reward for assignments done in class or for homework. Jeopardy-style quiz games to review academic material before a test are another form of gamification in school (169). By self-experience with my son I agree that this method of gamification really works well with students and teachers.
Selection and evaluating of software and apps. This subject is a very interesting in this chapter. It is important to know what program is best for our students to use. Transforming Learning with New Technologies mention in this chapter, In many schools, teachers are not allowed to add their own software to the school system network (162). This is true. For this school, teacher do not pick what program they think or know is going to work more effectively. Teachers know better than the administration representatives what program will work better for their students. At this time the ESL teacher has been told, “This is the program we are using and these are the results we want to see.” I really like and agree with the question we as new teachers to be need to make ourselves before choosing a program, I will copy this on my notes for further use. Transforming with New Technologies reads, “Will the child program the computer or will the computer will program the child?”(Papert,1996,p.56).(162). As a mother and a teacher to be, this subject really got my attention and I want to research more on how to select and evaluate apps and software for my kids and my future students.

Another subject that called my attention is Debates about games and gaming.  While I was reading aloud in my dining room, a debate started about this subject. My son likes to play games and my daughter is always against it. He have played Halo and assassin creed.(2 or 3 times in this year). It is a big controversy the use of video games, I don’t agree when
                                                                                                                                          Some rightsreserved by kjarrett
Transforming Learning with new Technologies says, “Many parents and teachers believe they should severely restrict computer use by students and some would totally ban preschoolers and kindergartens from using computers for learning of play” (169). I don’t agree with this because not all the games are bad. At preschool and kindergarten I think is ok to sue the computer or games to learn.  where I agree is when Transforming learning with new technologies mentions that “there are also concerns that brain development and social skills are adversely affected by extensive game play” (169). Yes I agree with that because when these kids get obsess with the fame is like an alcoholic. They can lose themselves, more over if we think of most or all of the teens who’s been shooting classmates or even themselves, all of them have the games in common. So I think yes! Is ok to play but parents always need to check how often these kids play the same games.  I agree too, when it mentions that m some researches have suggested that violent video games Cause desensitation to real-life violence among game players who appear to “get used to”- that is,
become,”physiology cally numd” to –cruel and agrresive beganiors (Carnagey, Anderson,& Bushman, 2007,p.495) (170). I think that when a kid stops doing their responsibilities for been gaming, I think this is a sign that functioning normal. Parents need to always be very attentive with their teens about those games, not the schools.
In conclusion all these subjects are very interesting and very informative for parents and teacher. It is very important to be informed of all the software and games more than anything else, that we and our kids use and the ones we are  going to be using in the future with our future students.

EME 2040 Digital Badge #D Laura Guzman Moreno Becoming a 21st century teacher.
Some rights reserved by Old Shoe Woman

Meeting Educational standards got  my interest in this chapter. According to  transforming Learning with new Technologies, planning  teaching and assessing, all directly connected, sometimes become separate when teachers think about their work in the classroom (83). this article is true and scary at the same time. Most of the times this means like 3 jobs in one for a teacher.  Teachers plan their lesson to engage their students and when they evaluate the students they find out that they have 3 different groups. I think that it might be easy to plan, but when she is teaching what planned to teach, it can be difficult because all students are in different levels. A teacher job is not as easy as it looks. On my experience,I have  work with teachers who enthusiastically have share about how she planed to teach this class and at the end of the day she needs to change her planning because it didn't work as she planned. also I agree with the Personal Experience assessment, which means that a teacher teaches the same way she was thought  That is true om my experience because when I teach reading Horizon to my little group, I always try to imitate the teacher who thought me.

Another subject that got my interest was New Approaches to Assessments. As Transforming Learning With New Technologies  states, "A former supporter of No Child Left Behind flatly declared that education reform has been "hijacked" by and over-reliance on standardize tests. It also says that Tests are driving the curriculum instead of the curriculum driving the tests (86). I agree with this comment because I have witness how teachers work together to try to figure out what to teach the  students. They invest most of their time trying to find the best thing to teach them with out knowing if this is going to be in that certain test. Teaching Learning With New Technologies reads, "For students the joy and purpose of learning is taken away as they have fewer and fewer opportunities to explore topics that do not appear on the tests (87). I agree with this comment because as teachers prepares students for the "Holy FCAT " tests, students get bored just to know that this might be on the test and many things are not there. I think that would be more helpful if teacher knows what this people wants  from the students to learn, if they make the tests, they should do the lessons to be teach to students stead of letting teacher brake their heads with some thing that are not on their lists. According to Transforming Learning With New Technologies, "out right dishonesty," teachers adjust the test conditions so students do better or, some instances, actually given students answers to difficult questions(Popham, 2002.pp.1-3). For example,ESL (English as a second language) , teachers are teaching middle schoolers
from 2nd and 3rd grade level because that is  their level as English speakers, but when FCAT comes these students are given a regular 6,7, or 8 grade test. So how do they expect these students to get a passing grade?

Last but not least, I over read   the Web Resources and Apps for Students Assessment. I really never thought about Rubrics,or even knew what that was , so I navigate in Ribistar. com and when I went back to my place of work, I comment to some of the teachers that I need it to work on a Rubric, and more than 3 teachers mention Rubistar. com. they told me not to worry about it because with Rubistar it was going to be easy because it does it for you. So I will use this web site for my Rubrics on the future. Another subject that i really like is the eClcklers. Math teachers use these clickers.  The math teachers and students really enjoy using these clicker  Teachers save time and students enjoy using and looking at their answers right away. I will be happy to use these apps and webs for my teaching experience,if by that time theres  anything better than this invented .

One thing I know about teachers, they never finish studying because there is always something new on education standards ,new approaching assessments, and bunch of new websites and apps to learn from .                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Somereserved by ecastro   Maloy, Robert, Verock-O’Loughlin,Ruth-Ellen, Edwards, Sharon A., and Woolf, Beverly Park (2013). Transforming Learning with New Technologies. 2nd Edition. EME 2040 Digital Badge #C Laura Guzman Moreno Becoming a 21st century teacher.

Research On The Science Of Learning. This subject on how people learn, as Transforming  Learning with New Technologies mention,"To illustrate constructivist learning, imagine how you might teach students for conceptualize that  the earth revolves around the sun. Apart from simply telling them the facts, how do you make this scientific knowledge important and understanding to students?"(48). The answer to this question is active learning , which i think is the most and best way to teach the lesson. I really agree with this method because is really what it is happening. this method is helpful not only on science but all other subjects i suppose. For instance a math teacher has a reward store for her students. Every time she catches them doing the write thing, doing their work or been acting responsible she gives them bucks bills (paper money) .buck bills can be use on her store. The teacher uses real problem solving when they what  to buy stuff on the store. Teacher even give credit to students with out buck bill to teach them about negative and positive integers.I really think that this is the best method to engage students with real life problems.

Instructional Methods to Engage Students. one-on-one tutoring, as Transforming Learning with New Technologies "educators typically uses four teaching methods to actively engage students in learning" (52). One-on-one tutoring , I think is very convenient method to use in class. By own experience, a class with 23 students  will always have two or three students that are very quiet, shy, or afraid to raise their hand to ask questions that they have & don't understand or to share with the class. Working on one-on-one students are less stress, feel more confidence, animated and they feel supported from their teachers. I really enjoy this method and definitely will use it when I become a teacher.

Last but not least I read online problem-solving Environments. I agree with Transforming Learning with New Technologies when it mentions that, "online learning environments, including educational games and interactive simulations develop students' talents as problem solvers and critical thinkers" (53). Again on personal experience I have seen such changes on students that are learning English  and as short  of a year they learned to communicate with others in English, these students started with technology games. They started with games just to have fun, but on the way with out notice they are practicing the new language. Transforming Learning with New Technology mentions,"there are three primary characteristics of solving problems in online learning game environments (53). first characteristic explains that students can do thing on the computer that they cant do on paper. the second characteristic says "students encounter types of problems that occur in the real world of problems of personal interest to them" (53). Third characteristic is that students integrate knowledge of technology with academic content. which mean that they learn how to use the computer devises and also they learn to understand math ,science, language arts and history material that is embedded in the structure of the games"(53).

In conclusion all methods of teaching that i have read about in this first three chapters of Transforming Learning with New Technologies sound very good, but is our responsibility as teacher to be to learn and own all these technology and teaching methods so we can engage it to our students    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pCp8g-VjOs.
